Makalu base camp trek is a trek to observe Nepal some of the best routes- vibrant landscapes, terraced farmlands, rural culture and lifestyle, rare wildlife and stunning views of several snow capped mountains, including Mt. Makalu (8481m),the fifth highest mountain in the world. The trek to Makalu Base Camp is quiet with untouched natural beauty. Makalu Base Camp trek starts from city tour in Kathmandu. Enjoy flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar and trek to Khandbari. Crossing several villages like Hururu, Num, Sedua, etc and enjoying the scenery leads us to Makalu Base Camp at an elevation of 5000m. Enjoy the mesmerizing views of the Himalayas from the top of Makalu Base Camp. Following the trail and crossing several villages like Nhe Kharka, Mumbak, Kauma, etc leads us to Tumlingtar followed by flight to Kathmandu. Welcome to the land of Himalaya, Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu meet and greet our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd and transfer to the hotel. Short description of Makalu Base Camp Trek enroute and check-in at the hotel. If you have free time, roam around the streets of Kathmandu for self-exploration in the evening.

Guided sightseeing in Kathmandu at UNESCO World Heritage Sites including; Kathmandu Durbar Square- an ancient courtyard, Pashupatinath- a holy temple of Hindus dedicated to Lord Shiva, Swayambhunath- an oldest Buddhist shrine at the hillock and Boudhanath- the largest Buddhist Shrine at the outskirts of Kathmandu. Remaining day free for self-exploration at the streets of Kathmandu and for trek preparation.

Fly to Tumlingtar from Kathmandu and enjoy an aerial view of diversified landscapes, hills and stunning mountain vistas. Upon arrival at Tumlingtar airport, get ready to trek to Khandbari at an elevation of 1040m. The trail ascends through the forest of rhododendron and sal trees and passing several villages, the trail climbs a plateau and furthermore of ascend uphill leads us to Khandbari village. Walking alongside of the attractive and fertile villages leads us to our last destination for today.

From Khandbari, the trail ascends uphill and passing a ridge leads us to Mani Bhanjyang. Passing through a bamboo forest, rocks and tamang village beyond the village, the trail ascends upwards offering a spectacular views of Chamlang, Makalu and Jaljale himal. The trail descends downwards through the rhododendron forest and passing several villages and Mani walls leads to Hururu at an elevation of 1900m.

Leaving Hururu behind, the trail passes through rhododendron forest and walking along the ridge and crossing the stream, following the rocky trail leads us to the village of Num at an elevation of 1490m. Roam around the village in the evening.

Leaving the beautiful Num village behind, the trail descends downwards through corn field and forest till we reach the suspension bridge of Arun River. The trail ascends as we cross the suspension bridge and following the trail, we pass the beautiful terraced framlands. The rocky trail and rough climb leads us to Sedua village.

The trail ascends uphill from Sedua village. A gradual climb high above the Kasuwa khola to Gyang. From Gyang, the trail is normal as gradual walk passing through terraced farmlands and forests and passing several villages like Hindurumgma, Rupisa, etc leads us to Tashi Gaon. Tashi Gaon is a Sherpa village located at an elevation of 2070m.

From Tashi Gaon, the trail climbs over the ridge and ascends through the forest to a stream. A gradual and rough climb leads us to Chipla. The trail passes through several streams till we reach up the ridge in the forest to a kharka. From Kharka, the trail gets steeper and becomes a series of stone-stairs leading us to Dhara Kharka. Leaving the Dhara Kharka behind, a gradual uphill ascend to the hillock from where the trail descends till we reach at the village of Kauma.

Leaving Kauma village behind, following the trail ascending uphill to the stone-staircase leads us to a small lake. Gentle climb uphill and passing the Kike La pass, the trail descend to another lake and again ascends uphill leading us to Tutu la. From Tutu la, the trail descends downwards passing through the forest of rhododendron and fir leading us to Mumbak, a forest-camp on the grassy slope. Roam around Mumbak in the evening.

From Mumbak, the trail descends downward through rhododendron and fir forest. Walking alongside of Barun valley, crossing the slide-area and following the river leads us to Kharka. The trail passes through the rhododendron forest and scrubs, leads us to Yangle Kharka. A gentle walk and crossing the north side of Barun Khola leads us to Nhe Kharka at an elevation of 3000m. Explore the gumba in the evening and observe the stunning views of mountain ranges.

From Nhe Kharka, following the trail on the north bank of Barun Khola and crossing a wooden bridge over Barun khola, observe the beautiful view of Barun valley along with the terraced farmlands. A gradual and gentle climb uphill leads us to Ripok Kharka and leaving the rhododendron forest, the trail now enters alpine tundra. Following the trail and observing the picturesque views and crossing the pass, the trail leads us to an alluvial valley. Observe the first view of Mt. Makalu. Furthermore of walking ahead leads to Sherson village.

From Sherson, following the east bank of Barun Khola, the trail climbs a minor pass to reach Makalu Base Camp. The trail descends downward to the stream towards base camp on the opposite side of the river. Observe the best view of Makalu facing south. Following the trail leads us to Makalu Base Camp at an elevation of 5000m. Observe the panoramic views of mountain ranges including Makalu, Lhotse, Baruntse, etc.

As today is a rest day at base Camp, explore around the base camp. The base camp is a rocky barren with Barun glacier beyond it. Observe the magnificent south face of Makalu along with panoramic views of Mt. Everest and Lhotse among several other peaks. Explore the glaciers, lakes at the base camp. Remaining day free for relaxation.

From Base Camp, the trail descends downwards and following the same trail. Crossing several villages and alpine tundra behind, the trail now enters the shrubs and rhododendron forest leading us to Barun Valley. Walking alongside of the river and crossing the suspension bridge over Barun Khola leads us to Nhe Kharka. Explore around the village in the evening.

Leaving the beautiful village of Nhe kharka, the trail ascends uphill. A gentle and gradual climb uphill passing through the rhododendron and fir forest leads us to the village of Mumbuk at an elevation of 3570m.

From Mumbuk, the trek descends downwards through the stone-staircase and crossing several passes and lakes leads us to Kauma. The trail passes through the rhododendron and fir forest and streams. Explore around Kauma village in the evening and explore the culture and lifestyle of local people.

From Kauma, the trail descends downwards passing through several streams and cattle shed. Crossing several bridges and streams leads us to Tashi Gaon at an elevation of 2070m. Explore around the Tashi Gaon in the evening.

From Tashi Gaon, the trail descends downwards to Sedua. From Sedua, the trail descends downwards to Mulgaon and then descend to Ipsuwa Khola. Passing the terraced farmlands and crossing the suspension bridge over Arun Khola leads us to Arun valley. Local people inhabited here are mostly Rai and Chhetri. Passing the beautiful Arun valley and following the rocky trail leads us to Balung at an elevation of 760m.

From Balung, the trail further descends downwards through the terraced farmlands. Passing the village of Rai and crossing several suspension bridges, and walking along the forest leads us to Pukuwa at an elevation of 550m. Roam around Pukuwa in the evening and explore the local culture, tradition and lifestyle.

From Pukuwa, the trail descends downwards through the forest of rhododendron. Crossing several streams and terraced farmlands, the trail descends to a delightful camp on the bank of Sankhuwa Khola. Crossing the suspension bridge over sankhuwa Khola leads us to the beautiful chhetri village of Bumling at an elevation of 370m.

A gradual walk till we reach the fields of lower Bumling, the trail climbs a ridge and descend towards Inkhuwa khola. Crossing the wooden bridge over Inkhuwa Khola, and walking along the bank of Inkhuwa Khola leads us to the junction point of Arun Khola. Crossing another suspension bridge over Arun Khola and walking alongside on the bank of Arun Khola leads us to Chwayabesi. From Chwayabesi, the trail ascends uphill leading us to Tumlingtar.

We will take a flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu. Observe the aerial view of mountain ranges, diversified landscape and beautiful hills. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to your respective hotel. Rest day free for self-relaxation and self-exploration around Kathmandu.

Today is your leisure day at Kathmandu. Explore the culture, tradition and lifestyle of local people and enjoy roaming around the streets of Kathmandu. Roam around Thamel for shopping in the evening.
