Trip Overview

To be at the base camp of World’s highest Mountain Mt. Everest (8848m) is the dream of every trekker. Located at the beautiful Khumbu region, Island Peak Climbing with Gokyo Lakes and Everest base camp trek is the 22 days long trekking package in which you will experience trekking in Gokyo Lakes and Everest base camp along with Island Peak climbing. Island Peak is the most attainable climbing peak at Khumbu region providing the panoramic views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest and many others. Crossing Cho La Pass and glacial Gokyo Lakes, the trail leads us to Kala Patthar at an elevation of 5545m and finally to summit Island Peak. With the diversified landscapes, local settlements, rhododendron, silver fir, oak forest, beautiful monasteries and gompas and the picturesque sceneries of Himalayan ranges and glaciers are the highlights of Island Peak climbing with Gokyo Lakes and Everest base camp trek.

Starting from sightseeing in Kathmandu at UNESCO World heritage sites followed by a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Trek starts from Lukla and walking along the bank of Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi River, the trail passes several villages like Phakding, Monjo, famous Sherpa Village of Khumbu region; Namche Bazaar, Dole, Machhermo leads us to Gokyo Lakes. Gokyo Lakes are the holy lakes of Buddhists made up of fresh Himalayan water. Crossing the Gokyo Lakes, and Cho La Pass at an elevation of 5420m, continue trek to Dzongla,Lobuche, Gorakshep that leads us to Everest Base camp and Kala Patthar. Observe the panoramic view of Sunrise over the Himalayas. Retracing the route to Dingboche via Gorak Shep and trek to Island peak base camp followed by summit Island Peak at an elevation of 6189m. Following the route down to Chhukung valley followed by trek to Lukla via Namche Bazaar. Enjoying the scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, where our journey ends.

Island Peak Climbing with Gokyo Lakes and Everest base camp trek is specially designed for adventure seeker trekkers in quest of challenging climbing plus trekking experience crossing some of the famous passes of Khumbu region. Proper documentation needs to be prepared for Island Peak climbing as we need to take permit from Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and same for Everest base camp trek as we need to take permission from immigration department. Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Kathmandu.

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu. Upon arrival at TIA, meet and greet our representatives from Moonline Tours P. Ltd and transfer to the hotel. Short description of Island Peak Climbing with Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp trek enroute and check-in at the hotel. If you have free time, roam around Kathmandu for self-exploration and relaxation.

Guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at the UNESCO World Heritage Sites including- Kathmandu Durbar Square; an historical palace, Pashupatinath; a holy temple of Hindus, Swayambhunath; an ancient Buddhist Stupa also known as “Monkey Temple” and Boudhanath; the largest Buddhist Stupa. After sightseeing, a short meeting with our trekking guides and the required trekking gears for trekking at Everest base camp and Gokyo Lakes along with Island Peak climbing. Remaining day free for relaxation and self-exploration.

Enjoy early morning scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The weather of Lukla keeps changing during daytime so it is important to take early morning flight to Lukla to observe the best views of Himalayas as the weather remains clear during morning. Upon arrival at Lukla, trek to Phakding. The trail gradually ascends and descends and walking along the side of Dudh Koshi river and crossing the suspension bridge several times leads us to Phakding. Explore around Phakding in the evening.

Walking Time: 3 hours

From Phakding, the trail ascends uphill. Crossing several suspension bridges including the iconic Hillary bridge and walking along the bank of Dudh Koshi River leads us to Monjo; a gateway of Sagarmatha National Park. Froom Monjo, passing through the beautiful forest of rhododendron, silver fir, and oak with an opportunity to spot rare flora and fauna leads us to Namche Bazaar at an elevation of 3440m. Namche Bazaar is the famous Sherpa village of Khumbu region and the Gateway to Everest Base Camp. Explore around Namche Bazaar in the evening and roam around the village.

Walking Time: 6 hours

As we have already reached an elevation of above 3000m, today is a rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. Acclimatization helps our body to adopt the change in altitude and climate. As today is acclimatization day, a short hike to Everest View hotel to observe the stunning view of Mt. Everest , Cho Oyu, Lhotse and several others peaks. After observing the majestic views, return back to Namche Bazaar and explore the local market and local people.

From Namche Bazaar, the trail steeply ascends uphill to Kyangjuma village and observes the majestic views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, etc. Passing the rhododendron forest, several yak grazing pastures and villages like Tongba and Gyele leads us to Dole at an elevation of 4200m. We can spot varieties of flora and fauna en route along with the stunning views of Khumbila and Tawache throughout the day. Explore Dole village in the evening.

The trail ascends gently uphill through a scenic ridge above the Dole leading us to Labharma and to Luza. The route is steep in most places as we pass through bushes, offering the beautiful views of Cho Oyu and Thamserku. As we ascend more ahead, observe the beautiful Dudh Koshi valley and Dudh Koshi River passing through small settlements. With a picturesque view and gentle walk leads us to Machhermo at an elevation of 4400m. Machhermo is the last village on the way to Gokyo. Roam around machhermo village and explore the culture, tradition and lifestyle of local people. Rest day free for relaxation.

Walking Time: 5 hours

From Machhermo, the trail steeply ascends uphill. With a beautiful view of snow-capped mountains and passing the steep route and following the chortens leads us to Pangka. The trail descends down towards a river bank before we ascend a steep uphill to the moraine of Ngozumpa Glacier. After crossing the iron bridge, the trail gently ascends uphill that leads us to Gokyo First Lake “Longpongo”. Furthermore, a gradual uphill walk through the steep route leads us to second Lake” Taboche Tsho” and a little more walk ahead leads us to Gokyo village where the third and most sacred Gokyo lake lies “Dudh Pokhari”. Observe the beautiful view of Dudh Pokhari along with the majestic view of Cho Oyu as its background. Explore around Gokyo village in the evening.

walking Time: 4 hours

Short hike to Gokyo RI at an elevation of 5360m. The trail steeply ascends uphill with the beautiful views of Gokyo village and several other snow-capped mountains. The snowy steep route leads us to Gokyo Ri. Observe the panoramic view of Mahalangur range, Taboche, Cholatse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Everest, etc. The climb to Gokyo Ri is an unforgettable experience of Island Peak Climbing with Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp trek. Return back to Gokyo village.

Walking Time: 4 hours

Today is the shortest walk day as the trail gradually and gently ascends and descends leading us to Thangnak village at an elevation of 4700m. Remaining day free for relaxation at Thangnak as the next day is going to be a long walking day. Roam around Thangnak in the evening.

Walking Time: 2 to 3 hours

Today is going to be a very long walking day as we have to cross Cho-La Pass at an elevation of 5420m. The trail ascends steeply uphill from Thangnak leading us to the top of Cho-La Pass. The steep trail is difficult as it includes several icy glaciers and we have to walk alongside the frozen lake. The steep ascend leads us to the top of the pass that contains beautiful prayer flags. Observe the beautiful view of several snow-capped mountains. After observing the majestic views for some more time, the trail steeply descend down leading us to Dzongla at an elevation of 4830m. Observe the stunning views of Cholatse, Ama Dablam, etc.

Walking Time: 7 to 8 hours

From Dzongla, the trail descends down towards a river and after crossing the bridge, following the grassy trail with the view of Lobuche Peak, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, etc, the trail leads us to the wide Lobuche Village in riverbed. Explore around Lobuche in the evening.

Walking Time: 4 hours

The trail ascends steeply uphill towards Gorakshep Lake from Lobuche. Following the trail alongside the steep moraines, rocky dunes and streams leads us to Everest Base Camp at an elevation of 5364m. Observe the stunning views of Nuptse, Pumori, etc. After observing for some more time, return back to Gorakh Shep at an elevation of 5181m. Retracing the route leads us to Gorka Shep.

Walking Time: 8 hours

We start our trek early in the morning from Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar at an elevation of 5545m in order to observe the first ray of Sun touching the Himalayas. The trail ascends steeply uphill through several frozen streams and moraines leading us to Kala Patthar. Observe the panoramic view of mountains including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and several others. After spending some more time, observing the beautiful views of mountains, retracing the route downwards to Gorak Shep. Observe the picturesque sceneries during descending down towards Gorak Shep. From Gorak Shep, the trail descends down to Dingboche at an elevation of 4410m. Dingboche is the last Sherpa village of Khumbu region. Observe the stunning views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak from Dingboche. Explore around Dingboche in the evening.

Waking Time: 7 hours

From Dingboche, the trail ascends gently and gradually uphill. With the beautiful views of Ama Dablam, following the moraines that flow from Lhotse leads us to Island Peak Base Camp at an elevation of 5240m. Explore around in the evening. Consult with trekking guides for using mountaineering gears and equipment for summit to Island Peak.

Walking Time: 6 hours

We will start our trek early as we have to summit Island Peak. The trail ascends uphill through the snowy and steep icy routes and moraines. The steep climb and crossing several glacial lakes leads us to the top of Island peak at an elevation of 6189m. Using the mountaineering gears and equipment and following the instruction of trekking guides, we summit Island peak successfully. Observe the panoramic view of snow-capped mountains, the beautiful Chhukung valley from Summit and descend down to Chhukung. The trail steeply descends down, retracing the route leading us to Chhukung. Explore around Chhukung valley in the evening and interact with local people.

Walking Time: 10 to 11 hours

Today is a free day as if we failed to summit the peak in the scheduled itinerary due to several reasons like bad weather, physical and health problems etc. If we fail to summit the peak on the scheduled day, we can climb it a day after. If everything is as per our scheduled day, we will rest today.

From Chhukung, the trail descends down. Passing through several villages like Pangboche, Tengboche, etc and exploring the Buddhist monasteries and picturesque views of mountains, we will soon notice the change in landscape as we notice green landscapes and forest of rhododendron and oaks. Following the trail with an opportunity to spot rare flora and fauna leads us to Namche Bazaar. Roam around Namche Bazaar in the evening or we can take a rest.

Walking Time: 7 hours

From Namche Bazaar, the trail descends down towards Monjo; the gateway of Sagarmatha National Park. Retracing the route and walking along the riverside, crossing several suspension bridges and Sherpa villages like Phakding leads us to Lukla at an elevation of 2800m. With several ascending and descending trails, we will reach Lukla. Roam around Lukla in the evening.

Walking Time: 7 hours

We will take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu as the weather in Lukla remains clear during morning time. Observe the aerial view of mountains and diversified landscape. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to the hotel. After some refreshment, roam around Kathmandu for self-exploring and relaxation.
